System’s early verification and validation is a good practice to identify and correct errors in the first phases of its development, reducing costs and time to market and ensuring the quality of the final product.

In many cases, however, we do not have the real to-be-controlled plant to run the verification and validation tests due to production, costs or physical space reasons.

For those situations, engineers from ULMA Embedded Solutions have developed hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) application for automatic testing to validate systems without the real plant.

In this application we have simulated different models of an industrial washing-machine designing the models in NI LabVIEW and Mathworks Simulink and simulating their behavior in all possible scenarios with NI VeriStand. We have also integrated NI TestStand to generate and run different test sequences automatically in all scenarios.

National Instruments have awarded this application in NI Engineering Impact Award 2016.
